Classic Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival 08.30.19

Welcome to the latest edition of the Orvis News Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing videos available. I’m on vacation this week, so we’ve got a classic collection, featuring a baker’s dozen films that will take you from Finnmark to New Zealand and from California to Virginia. On the salty side, there are cool productions from New Caledonia, the Everglades, and the Mediterranean.

For best results, watch all videos at full-screen and in high definition. Remember, we surf so you don’t have to. But if you do stumble upon something great that you think is worthy of inclusion in a future F5, please post it in the comments below, and we’ll take a look.

The latest from our friends at Black Fly Eyes is a stunning look at northern Norway’s Finnmark Region. The team invests some serious boot leather to enjoy the intensity of dry-fly fishing for Atlantic salmon and then swinging for the big ones.

Check out this glorious video from the Florida Everglades, featuring some amazing shots of tarpon, the landscape, and other denizens of the River of Grass.

A guide’s life is condensed into the hardcore fishing season–Colorado fishing guide Patrick Duke rowed 103 floats trips in 107 days–so when autumn comes, it feels like a new beginning. I love the rhythms of this video.

Virginia is for brookie lovers in this lovely video from Connor Tapscott.

More great stuff from Norway, this time just outside Trondheim–on a river where rising brown trout create quite a challenge.

The first video of the season from Andrew Harding (a.k.a. “troutboynz“) shows just how crazy the weather can be in the center of New Zealand’s North Island. But the stunning trout make it all worthwhile.

It’s been a while since we visited Carptown, and this version is on the mudflats of Australia.

The far northern tip of New Caledonia, in the South Pacific, offer incredible opportunities for big bonefish and other species.

Luke Bannister offers another quiet, serene video from his summer trip to Sweden. Nobody does mellow like LB.

California angler Ken Hanley is back with a cool video about casting for big stripers in the surf.

Chasing bluefin tuna on a fly is not for the faint-hearted; these shots of blitzes are amazing.

It’s always great to see young people and women getting into the sport, and this video combines the two for a day on the water in Utah.

We finish up with a gorgeous video about the Wild Steelhead Coalition, dedicated to increasing the return of wild steelhead to the waters of the West Coast.
