We have posted many times about the great organizations that use fly fishing as a way to help veterans deal with or recover from challenges, both physical and mental, resulting from their service. There are many such groups, both local and national, but several that have done a remarkable job getting the word out about their work are Project Healing WatersWarriors and Quiet WatersSoul River Runs DeepVeterans Expeditions, and AWOL Angler. A simple Google search will help you find chapters near you, and they are usually looking for volunteers to help with the work.

To celebrate Veterans Day and to honor those who have served, here is a selection of videos produced over the past few years. It is a profound experience to see how the sport we love can be used to help those to whom we owe so much. It’s amazing to see veterans taking part in conservation efforts, as well. Check out the programs linked above–or any others in your area–and consider how you can help, via a donation or participation.

  1. Thank you Orvis for these great videos of our veterans. My son is a veteran from the Marines served in Iraqi Freedom. It is wonderful that you put these videos together. Thank you.
