Master Class Monday: How to Rig a Heavy Wire Leader for Toothy Fish

World famous shark angler and conservationist Conway Bowman is an Orvis ambassador and field tester. In this exclusive Orvis video, he shows how he rigs his flies for giant mako sharks. The same rigging technique also works well for smaller sharks, pike, muskie, and barracudas–any species where you need strong bite protection. It’s a quick system that utilizes stainless wire–he uses 120-pound but you can use much lighter wire for smaller species–and a 50-pound welded ring, known as a tuna ring. Just think of it as a tippet ring on steroids.
