By now you have probably experienced a broken tippet knot, either caused by a big fish or a snag. In this video, Pete Kutzer shows you how to tie this valuable addition to your skills.

Try the “Infinity Tippet Knot” – it is hands down the best tippet splicing knot available. Super-fast, ridiculously easy, excellent strength, and completely reliable. I have no idea why this obscure knot has not achieved wider recognition. You can now find it on YouTube:

This knot is not topologically the same as the “Orvis Tippet Knot” as shown in https://news.orvis.com/fly-fishing/video-tip-tie-orvis-tippet-knot. In this video the tippet ends are wrapped around the lower side of the loop. In the original version they would be wrapped around the upper side of the loop. I have been using the original version successfully for the last 15 years. This new version might be as strong or stronger but it would take some serious testing determine that. I’m sticking with the original for now.
God I wish they’d answer this question. You’re right. I came to the same conclusion. So much for attention to detail…
