From September 20 through October 19, we ran our first-ever Try-On-A-Thon as a way to get folks to give Silver Sonic Waders a shot. Just for trying on a pair and seeing how they fit and felt, anglers were to win some killer prizes, including a Penn’s Creek bamboo rod made by master craftsman Charlie Hisey in our Manchester, Vermont, shop.

The Grand Prize went to Mike Muse, from—get this!—Troutville, Virginia. Appropriate, eh? We aksed Mike to tell us a bit about himself and his fishing, and here’s what he sent in:

Fishing has always been a passion of mine beginning with fond childhood memories of going with my grandfather and dad. I still fly fish with my eighty-two-year-old dad! My love of fly fishing fueled my passion for fly tying, which I have been able to teach and share with many folks.

I felt that such a beautiful Penns Creek bamboo rod deserved a wonderful reel, so it is now complemented with the Orvis CFO III Limited Edition. The reel is spooled with the Hydros 4-weight Trout fly line which has been “dry” casted and is ready for the water. The Penns Creek rod has an awesome “sweet action”! I can’t wait to play my first fish when the weather and stream flow improve…..three trout stocked waters in town and dozens more within an hour’s drive.

Congratulations to Mike and to all the other winners, and thanks to everyone who tried on a pair of Silver Sonics.
