Our recent “One to Keep, One To Give” Sweepstakes got everyone in the holiday spirit and produced thousands of entries from folks who were excited to get one Clearwater Fly Rod Outfit for themselves and one for a friend or loved one. On Friday morning, the widget revealed our randomly chosen winner: George Struder or White Hall, Maryland. For his prize, George chose two 8-weight Big Game Outfits for chasing bass in freshwater and bluefish and rockfish (striped bass) in the salt. I asked George for a short fly-fishing bio, and here’s what he sent:
I’ve been fishing for honestly as long as I can remember. My dad was in the army, so we moved around a lot, but we always managed to find a way to fish. Growing up all around the world gave me a lot of opportunities to do so in incredible places that I probably took for granted.
Most recently, my fly-fishing pursuits took me on a cross-country fall road trip. With help from some friends, I got to catch smelt in California, fish the Deschutes in Oregon, got my lines wet in the Cascades in Washington, and even got to stop and fish in Wyoming and Montana. The end of the trip brought me my greatest experience: a four trout grand-slam (or at least a mini one) at Deckers in Colorado, including a 25+ inch rainbow on the first snowday of this winter. I can’t even begin to describe the rush of that experience, but it actually convinced me to make my move out West next year.
Thanks to all everyone who entered the contest. We’ll launch another one soon, so stay tuned!
