Orvis New York Fishing Department On the Move

Big changes are afoot at Orvis New York City. The Fishing Department, which has been located at our store at 44th and 5th, has moved down the street to 489 Fifth Ave., right across from the main entrance to the New York Public Library. Check out these great photos of Fishing Manager Rob Ceccarini and Store Manager Doug Lopez recreating a journey that the department’s large tarpon mount made through the streets of the Big Apple in 2001.

In honor of the transition, we have a full slate of events coming up at our 489 location:

  • On October 2nd, Orvis Days kick off with lots of great presentations: from falconer Tom Cullen and his birds of prey to guide Joe Demalderis offering tips on mousing the Big D. To top it all off we will be enjoying a fisherman’s happy hour at 5:30, as we can’t think of a better way to wrap up the work week.
  • On October 4, Bidewee Dog Adoption will take over the store with several adorable pups in tow. Join us to learn more about how you can help these loving dogs a permanent home.
  • On October 9, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of our friends Wolverine Worldwide. Join us at 6 pm for the launch of the 1,000 Mile Bison Boot, free food and refreshments!

We look forward to seeing you there!

From 44th street, they headed down to the new block, between 41st and 42nd.

Finally, the tarpon reaches its new home at 489 Fifth Avenue.

Thirteen years ago, the tarpon moved in the other direction.
