The first fish on Andy’s new Recon was this streamer-eating brown from the Lewis River in YNP.

When we tallied the votes in our “20 September Days” Contest, reader Andy Bennett came out on top with a gorgeous image of a Wyoming cutthroat. His prize was a new Recon rod (he chose the 9-foot 5-weight), and yesterday he sent an email with a photo and a note about his first experience with the rod:
I thought I’d pass along a picture of the first fish I caught on the Recon. After an unproductive first day casting with it on Friday, some friends and I went looking for fall run browns in Yellowstone on Saturday. I was glad that the first fish brought to the net on the new rod was this colorful brown trout. I couldn’t be more pleased with the Recon. I’ve only had the opportunity to cast streamers, nonetheless it has handled some heavy patterns beautifully. I’m looking forward to casting small dries with it, once the blue-winged olive and midge fishing really gets going.
I’d say that rod was christened in style. For a full report on Andy’s day out and more photos, check out the post on his blog, The Donkey Report.
