Photo of the Day: Big Angler, Big Trout

Pete Kutzer knows how to put his casting expertise to good use on the river.

After seeing the photos of our colleague Jim Maselli yesterday, casting instructor Pete Kutzer mentioned that he, too, had caught a nice brown trout on a Hendrickson pattern recently. According to Pete, this beautiful fish at a spinner pattern and then was off to the races, charging downstream at a remarkable pace—taking the full fly line and plenty of backing. It took some serious stunt-netting by Shawn Combs to land the hot trout. As you look at the above photo, keep in mind that Pete is 6 feet, 8 inches tall. That’s a fine brown.

    1. Nice fish. Last week I sat and waited on the BK for a rising fish. Good Hendrickson hatch at ~2.30 pm. Spinners later in the afternoon. Still not a dimple or splash. My cigars were good and the day was nice. I had a pleasant conversation with a gentleman from Montpelier.
I’m not presuming that Mr Kutzer was on the Batten Kill. However, I have seen fish in the BK like the one he is holding. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks. Kismet.
