Photos: Brennon’s Half Day on the Water

Who needs a trout when a creek chub can elicit a smile like that?

My son, Brennon, had a half day of school last week, and when I asked him what he wanted to do for the second half of the day, he said he wanted to hang out at the creek. So we spent the afternoon messing around, trying not to get his cast—courtesy of a little fall off the monkey bars last month—wet. Even the little creek chub are a blast to catch!

Even with one wing, Brennon can get the job done.

The pride of catching a fish by himself is apparent.

He’s even learned to hold the fish closer to the camera to increase its size.

Jon Hill lives in Littleton, Colorado and works in the digital-graphics field. But he spends almost all his spare time chasing trout in the high country, and his photos have been featured many times on the Orvis News. (See herehere, and here, for just a taste, or visit his blog, Ramblings.) He’s also a former Trout Bum of the Week.

I learned to fish in Central Pennsylvania catching chubs in the creeks there when I was a kid also. Later I graduated to trout.
