Editor’s note: Regular readers of this blog are familiar with Drew Ross, a.k.a. Looknfishy, and his kayak-fishing adventures. Yesterday, he sent in these cool shots, along with his thoughts on his new fly rod.
Digging the new H3 9-foot 8-weight. I took it out today to see if it would deliver size 12 bugs to unsuspecting grass carp in 15-20 mph winds. I’m super pumped to have a a rod that can deliver in less-than-ideal sight-fishing conditions and that has the strength and flex to fight large, powerful fish on 3X tippet. Really looking forward to carp season.

You have to be able to put the screws to these fish once they’re hooked.

The boatside battle can text a fly rod’s strength and flex.
PUTTING A BIG WHITE UGLY LABEL ON A MATTE BLACK BLANK MAKES NO SENSE..THE BLUE H2 RODS WERE SO MUCH NICER LOOKING…A BLUE LABEL FOR THE D AND A GREEN LABEL FOR THE F WOULD HAVE LOOKED WAY BETTER A MADE A LOT MORE SENSE..I HOPE THEY PULL THESE RODS SOON AND COME OUT WITH SOMETHING BETTER..
To be honest, while fishing with an H3 you never notice the label, you are concentrating on your line, I currently have 2x H3 with another on its way and love them, forget the label and just fish with one.
ALL OF THE RODS IN THE ORVIS LINE COULD USE A FACELIFT..TYHE RECON IS ABOUT THE CLOSEST THING THEY HAVE THAT LOOKS LIKE FLYROD..AT THE H3 PRICE POINT COSMETICS ABSOLUTELY MATTER..NOT MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING TO LAY DOWN 895 BEANS FOR A ROD WITH A BIG WHITE LABEL ON IT.,REGARDLESS OF HOW IT CASTS..
What a rod looks like is not even on my list of considerations. You guys are clueless. Performance is what counts with a real fisherman, not what kind of fashion statement you make.
