A glorious autumn day on the Upper Gunnison produced some beautiful kokanees.

Here are some pretty fall photos from the Gunnison River near Almont, Colorado. Guide Eric Kiklevich and his clients were lucky enough to have a high of 65 degrees on this beautiful fall day, which was nice, considering an overnight low of 19 degrees. Salmon are still in the Gunnison and this year we had one of the biggest Kokanee salmon runs we have had in recent memory.

The landlocked version of the sockeye salmon is a fine fly-rod quarry,

Cottonwood colors make a fine backdrop.

Fish on!

  1. Thanks Larry for the link from the forum! It is truly a special time of year here. Also, Doug’s book you mentioned:
Fly Fishing the Gunnison Country by Doug Dillingham
is a great wealth of information for any angler interested in the Upper Gunnison or its drainages.
