This 28-inch rainbow nearly spooled Jim, so they hopped into the boat to chase her for a quarter mile.

Jim Johnston—who operates Sierra Streamside Cabins and does the Orvis Fly Fishing Report for his home water, the North Yuba in California—sent in these photos from a recent trip to the Naknek River on the Alaska Peninsula. He hooked these beauties while drifting eggs with a 10-foot 4-weight Helios 2, and says that both fought incredibly hard in the big water.

Fall on the Naknek produces lots of fat, egg-eating trout such as this 25-incher.
