This week, I interview my old friend Kirk Deeter about Trout Unlimited’s Lifetime membership. This is a great gift for yourself or for a special person in your life (people often gift these to their kids for a special occasion), and this year the thank-you for the lifetime membership is a special Orvis Helios 2 Rod and limited-run CFO reel in Trout Unlimited’s green color. You can see how this rod was built in the video below.
Kirk and I do talk some fishing, and there is lots more in The Fly Box. Questions about the value of emergers, chest packs vs. waist packs vs. sling bags vs. vests, realistic vs. impressionistic flies, and the value of UV materials in fly tying are just some of the quick topics we cover.

Thanks for your response to the use of lead as weight in fly tying…much appreciated…change happens one person at a time…and after listening to your response and personal experience…I am trashing all my lead wire and heading out to the Avon, CT store to purchase some lead free wire.
I watch what I eat, exercise daily, take reasonably go care of myself…wear a seat belt and don’t text when I drive…so why am I taking a chance with lead? I kept looking at my lead stained fingers and did not really give it much thought…thanks for the push.
Hope you don’t mind the follow up…the issue way always in the back of my mind…but I never really gave it much thought.
Never underestimate what a powerful medium the Orvis Podcasts are…keep up the good work. Thanks for looking out for me and others.

4:48 into the podcast it stops. Don’t know whose end it is on. Yours or mine.
Hi Dave. I produce the show and all is fine on our end. Thanks!
