Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 03.04.21

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got ten classic questions about native trout, famous fly tiers, angling quotations, and fish anatomy. How many can you get (or guess) right?

The last quiz was another tough one, with the top scorer, Skip Persson, missing just a single question–which elicited a “close, but no cigar!” Five of you missed two questions, and things went downhill quickly from there. For the fourth week in a row, the most common score was a 50%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive a Retro Mountain Bent Rod Hat, which features the iconic Orvis Bent Rod logo against a retro graphic mountainscape. This is a new hat in our ever-changing collection of cool lids.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by the Google random number generator)–who will receive the Complete Hy-Flote Floatant System–is Markreno, whose score was the most common one.

So post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great video.

Good luck!

  1. Got a 90%. Tricky question #2 since I think Hap’s Bug was earlier, but wasn’t called a diver.

  2. OMG I went 6 for 6 to start and then went 0 for 4 to finish! 😀 One of my better results to date. 60%

  3. 100%. Just by explanation, I “knew” only 5 of the answers, but I’m a good researcher and within a few minutes found the rest of them. If I had to answer based on only what’s in my head, I’d probably score 40-60% at best. If this is not in the spirit of the whole thing, tell me and I’ll knock off the researching and go with what I know…hoping for lucky guesses on the rest. Skip

  4. 30% because I second guessed 4 that were initially correct. I’ll never learn. Florida threw me because I second guessed most people salt water fish and recall not requiring a license?
