Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 04.09.15

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. Here’s a classic quiz that will gauge your expertise on the best flies to imitate specific fish foods.

The scores on the last quiz jumped back upward in a big way, as we went from just a single score to seven of them. Congrats to: Steve Root, Josh Coburn, Nathan Hold, Dee Dee Davis, Clint, Shawn Smith, and Nick H. There were nine 90% scores, and the most common score was a promising 80% (although 70, 60, and 50 were just a tick behind).

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a year’s subscription to Catch Magazine. Our last winner (as determined by random.org) was John S., who passed the test by the skin of his teeth.

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win!

Good luck!

  1. 90%. No idea what a hellgramite was. Don’t ever think we have this litle monsters here in Europe.

  2. 90%. And I plead for redress on the last question. A prince nymph works great for small, black stoneflies in my estimation.

  3. 100%. It has been a few weeks since I’ve taken one of the quizzes and this one seemed a lot easier than others I have taken!

  4. 100% baby! It was a toss up between the bitch creek and the prince for the stonefly nymph though. Bitch creek seemed more obvoIous… Off to Hell or High Water event now, so later!

  5. After 40 plus years of fly fishing, I finally got to use some history of fly patterns.
I was lucky to get 100% on this one.
