Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 05.09.19

Welcome to a classic edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got ten questions about the best fly patterns to imitate insects, crustaceans, baitfish, and more! Remember: we are looking for the BEST answer for each.

The performance on the last quiz was a bit of a drop-off from the previous one. Just one person achieved a perfect scores, so big ups to James L. Faber, who credited “one good guess.” A mere 2 others scored 90%, and the most common score fell all the way back down to 40%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive an Orvis PRO Trout Smooth Fly Line. This new lines is designed with advanced compound tapers to be the best all-around trout line available and is the most versatile trout line available for multiple techniques and environments.

The winner of our last quiz, who will receive a signed copy of The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide by Tom Rosenbauer , is Paul, who moaned, “60% once again”–although this time that was well above average.

So post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great book.

Good luck!

  1. 50%

Bitch Creek is also a great novel by William “Tap” Tapply, The acclaimed author of the Brady Coyne fly fishing mystery novels. Bitch Creek is steamy, perfectly crafted mystery introducing unlikely hero and fly fishing guide Stoney Calhoun. A tragic event has obliterated Stoney’s memory and he has been given a chance to reinvent himself.

  2. 100%! I don’t know a thing about river locations or fly pattern creators, but at least I know which pattern to use
