Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 08.01.19

Welcome to another edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got a classic set of ten questions about scientific fields, world-record fish, famous river, and angling literature.

The last quiz was another toughie, but there was one perfect score. A standing-O goes to Kirk Miller, who claims that this victory came “after months of 60s and 70s!” Three responders missed just a single question: Alan Burrows (second week in a row), Al Cravinho, and Eric J. The most common score plummetted two spots to 50%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive The Orvis Fly-Tying Guide by none other than the great Tom Rosenbauer. This essential book on fly tying will teach anyone how to tie flies. All the important techniques are illustrated with color photographs, from starting the thread on the hook to whip finishing. The book lays the basic ground work by fully explaining simple tying techniques, and then progresses to detailed tying instructions for some of the most popular, modern patterns.

The winner of our last quiz–who also gets The Orvis Fly-Tying Guide–is Garret W., whose score elicited this response: “eek.”

So post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great video.

  1. I don’t know what POSSESSED me to pick “Nick Karas” over “Alex Karas” but I’m glad I did. 60%.
