Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 09.18.14

Welcome to another edition of our fly-fishing trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing, and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got a classic quiz: 20 questions all about fish nicknames.

Remember: you can submit full quizzes or individual questions by emailing them to monahanp@orvis.com. Each week, one of the question submitters will get a pack of cool stickers.

The scores on the last Trivia Challenge were about the same overall as last week, with 70% being the most common score. The number of perfect scores remained the same, as well, with 4 folks achieving 100%. Congrats to Winston, Blaine Barringer, Dwf, and Mikael Pertmann.

Most of you guessed low about the redfish world record last week. That was a monster fish!.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive packet of super-cool stickers. The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org) was Dave L, who failed the test but won a prize.

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win some great stickers for your car, boat, guitar, or whatever you want.

Good luck!

  1. Phil, it looks like only the first 10 questions are showing up. It’s showing the answers for the other 10 once you submit but not scoring them. That said… I scored 80%

  2. Only 50% on this one. Would have been better if I had gone with my first thought on a couple. As always it was fun!

  4. I have my masters in fisheries research…….and got 55%.
Every animal has an average of something like seven common names – which is the reason scientific names are used in published papers.

  5. felt confident until i looked at my score 60 %

I disagree with the freshwater jack question. In upstate NY a nice yellow perch is a “jack perch”
    sour grapes I know

  6. 90 should be 95 answer moved when I changed questions happens all the time but did not catch it this time as it was the second time I did the quiz because when you go to the answer page it will not connect the first time this has happened with the last three quizzes.

  7. 80% WOW just WOW I’m not doing anything for the rest of the day, got to rest the brain after that score. Well maybe a little fishing
