Take a Halloween Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 10.31.19

Welcome to a spooktacular edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got an all-new quiz built around Halloween words, such as ghost, devil, and vampire. If you score 100% on this one, you’re scary good!

The last quiz stumped most of you, and there was just one perfect score, achieved by Ricky L. Summers. Good on ye, sir! Four others–John S., shoo-fly, Joe Dunmire, and David–missed just a single question, and the most common score plummeted two spots to 50%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive  The Orvis Fly-Tying Guide by Tom Rosenbauer. This essential book on fly tying will teach anyone how to tie flies. All the important techniques are illustrated with color photographs, from starting the thread on the hook to whip finishing. The book lays the basic ground work by fully explaining simple tying techniques, and then progresses to detailed tying instructions for some of the most popular, modern patterns.

The winner of our last quiz–who gets an Orvis Bead Head and Tungsten Nymphs selection–is Eddie, who said, ” Pulled off an 80 with a little help from Google. Now I’m more educated.” You don’t get credit for that Google-aided 80, Eddie, but you do get some cool flies.

So post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win 10 effective trout flies.

  1. 100% the Pumpkin Caddis was tricky and I had to search google for some of the other answers, I love fishing quotes and found a great place to find others, my favorite fishing quote is “There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process.”

  2. 40% – I did better trick-or-treating last night. I went as a worm fisherman.

Thanks for another weekly slice of humble pie.

  3. 60%
I am haunted by waters as well. However, it is only the ones that don’t contain any fish that are spooky.
