Take a NEW Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 05.21.20

Welcome to a new edition of our weekly (sorta) trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. It’s been a couple months since we posted a quiz, but we hope to be back on track now. This week, we’ve got ten brand-new questions about river tributaries, native, famous quotes, and more.

The last quiz was seems to have been pretty easy, as there were eight perfect scores. Big ups to Brian King, Greg DeAngelis, Dave B, Peter D, Danny s., ron, Jim J, and King Fisher (Eric English) who commented, “ First ever! 2 lucky guesses.” There were 24 90%ers, and the most common score held steady at 70%. That said, I did get myself into trouble with this question:

My thinking was that all but the Missouri flow through Wyoming, but several of you pointed out that the Snake is the only one that drains to the Pacific. SO I’ll accept either answer, which means that there are probably MORE perfect scores. Bravo, y’all.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive a two-pack of Orvis Mirage Trout Leaders in the size of their choice. Pure fluorocarbon Mirage has the highest abrasion resistance of any leader or tippet, and is virtually invisible to fish. Mirage fluoro leaders should be your go-to for spring creeks, still water, large streamers, or fishing nymphs in clear water.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org)–who will also receive a pack of Mirage leaders–is Mikey Allred, whose score did not fall in the top half.

So post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great video.

Good luck!

  1. 60% glad to see the quiz back – – although it shows my ignorance of things fishing outside my own little sphere.

  2. 70% – I played hookey from my virtual distance learning classroom sneaking out to go fishing. I should have studied more.

  3. Absolutely crushed that! 100%

Although, I may have guessed on the tarpon master because two of them are super well known tarpon fisherman!
