Take a New Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 11.19.20

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got ten questions all about fly patterns and their inventors. There are a couple tricky ones, but savvy quiz-takers should be able to suss-out the most likely correct answer.

The last quiz was a pretty hard one, as reflected in the scores: There was just one perfect score–achieved by MarkT, who deserves our respect. Less-enthusiastic praise should be given to Leonard Persson and Alan Burrows, each of whom missed a single question. The most common score was a rather dire 40%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive a cool Ripstop Covert Trucker Hat. This is a new one, with clean look that’s available in three colors.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org)–who will also receive a hat–is ChrisinVa, whose score was not one that will go on the old resume.

Post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great video.

Good luck!

  1. When you are old as I am and have tied flies for so long, you get lucky and remember a few names when they are matched with their flies. A couple of very lucky guesses fit in as well.
    100%

  2. 65% – I awarded myself half credit for getting Pat’s first name correct on the rubberlegs question. About my Usual score but thought I did better.

  3. Sneaky – changing the vowel in Don Gapen’s first name, and then putting the incorrect one at the bottom of the list where it was more apparent to see the last name first. I’ll check more carefully in the future.
