Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got ten questions all about fly patterns and their inventors. There are a couple tricky ones, but savvy quiz-takers should be able to suss-out the most likely correct answer.
The last quiz was a pretty hard one, as reflected in the scores: There was just one perfect score–achieved by MarkT, who deserves our respect. Less-enthusiastic praise should be given to Leonard Persson and Alan Burrows, each of whom missed a single question. The most common score was a rather dire 40%.
The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive a cool Ripstop Covert Trucker Hat. This is a new one, with clean look that’s available in three colors.
The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org)–who will also receive a hat–is ChrisinVa, whose score was not one that will go on the old resume.
Post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great video.

Grrr. I have no idea why it’s not working. It worked fine when I tested it.
FIXED. I think.
30% which I feel pretty good about
70%. Several were really tough
40%. And I was only confident about two of them…
20% worse than usual
50% I don better when I’m flat out guessing.
I definitely dont know my fly fishing history…
20% I’ve tied most of these but no clue who did it first lol
70%, lousy luck, I missed all 3 that I had to guess!
Haven’t done this well in a long time
Forgot to post my score 70%
70%. At least I did better than Dave R.
60% should have done better
70%. I should have done better.
A lucky 40%!
Good old 30% – feels about right hahah

20 not one for the record books
50%! Really thought I had a shot. Sad.
80%. Connection issues in the SAC room got me! LOL!
Let’s say I took it and leave it at that!
When you are old as I am and have tied flies for so long, you get lucky and remember a few names when they are matched with their flies. A couple of very lucky guesses fit in as well.
30% I time em, but don’t really know who did it first.
30% from someone doesn’t fish for trout
70%. Surprised I did that well with so many guesses.
65% – I awarded myself half credit for getting Pat’s first name correct on the rubberlegs question. About my Usual score but thought I did better.
20% Don’t know my fly ties very well
50% – liked it though!
90% and I knew the compardun and still clicked the wrong answer.
80%, pure guessing. With that luck, fishing should hot today.
If it was first tied less than 40 years ago, I wasn’t paying attention.
20% Probably the worst category for me to know.
I’ll take it!
100%. Carrie Underwood…Carrie Fisher????
Sneaky – changing the vowel in Don Gapen’s first name, and then putting the incorrect one at the bottom of the list where it was more apparent to see the last name first. I’ll check more carefully in the future.
Actually, Dan was Don’s son. http://www.gapen.com/category_s/49.htm
90% and better than I expected
100% idk whether to be happy that I got it perfect or embarrassed that I’m geeky enough to have known
20% pure guessing
best ever failure….20%
wow only 20%
20% and one of those was a WAG – Carrie Stevens was the only one I was sure of
60% I can live with that.
You scored 80%!
