Take an ALL-NEW Orvis Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 06.23.22

Our weekly trivia challenge is back! Frankly, after more than a decade of creating these quizzes, I’ve run out of gas, but Assistant Editor Evan Jones has taken up the mantle of Quiz Master going forward. So please forward you complaints to him. (Joking!) Each week, Evan will test your knowledge of all things fly fishing. Remember that this is trivia, not a litmus test for what every angler should know. Even if you score poorly, you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got 10 questions about such topics as fish species, tackle specifications, fish biology, and fly types.

The last quiz (way back on November 18 of last year!) was tougher than most: and there were no perfect scores, nor were there any 90-percenters. Finger snaps for Larry D and Ben, who scored 80%. The most common score was a 50%. Let’s hope things go better this week.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive a Bent Rod Badge Hat, which, which features a brim made with 100% recyled fishing nets, keeping our oceans cleaner. This is a new hat in our ever-changing collection of cool lids.

The winner of that late-November quiz (as determined by the random.org) is Steve B, whose score was the kind of thing you’d hide from mom back in your school days. No matter, though, as he also gets a cool hat.

  1. 80%, one of my best scores… proving that luck occasionally overcomes lack of skill; now, how do I get that to work with my fishing…

  2. I believe there is an error in the answer key. A turle knot is not used to connect line to line. It is used to connect the fly to the leader.
