Take an All-New Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 01.03.19

Welcome to another edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. For this first quiz of 2019, we’ve got 10 brand-new questions about famous waters, fish species, angling authors, and lots more!

The last quiz was pretty difficult, I guess, but one person managed a perfect score. Kudos to Steve M! A respectable nine people missed just a single question–most didn’t know that Maine smallmouth are not natives–and the most common score held steady at 60%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive Tom Rosenbauer’s great book The Orvis Guide to Hatch Strategies: Successful Fly Fishing for Trout Without Always Matching the Hatch, from Universe Publishing. Instead of focusing on insect identification, in this book Tom stresses learning how to approach trout, how to find where they feed, and how to present the fly so it is accepted as natural food.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org), and recipient of Tom’s book, is Robert D. Teeden, who invoked the help of Santa and ended up with the prize. Coincidence? I’ll leave that for you to judge.

So post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great book.

Good luck!

  1. 100%

The Ernie q was tricky because I believe he did have a phd. And I don’t think there is a “South Fork river” but there is the South Fork of the Snake River. Tarpon species was a guess.

  2. 50% the first time, 90% second time around. Western waters and I don’t see eye to eye apparently.
