Take an All-New Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 01.29.15

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This one features 10 all-new questions, drawn from my brain and various places around the Internets.

The scores on the last quiz fell off quite a bit from the previous one, with just one perfect score. All hail Brian Musinski! However, Cody M. should get a few kudos, too, as our sole 90%. The most common score was 50%.

That said, some of you might have earned another 10%. It seems that the “AP” in AP Nymph stands for “All Purpose,” rather than “Andre Puyans.” If you chose “none of the above” for that questions, give yourself some more points.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a copy of The Never-Ending Stream by Scott Sanchez, a cool book about fly-tying form and function. Our last winner (as determined by random.org) was Sky Jones, who pitched one right down the middle.

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his inspirational words on the title page.

Good luck!

  1. 60% but that red eye question is wrong. There are plenty of red eye bass in western NC. In fact they are a major predator of brookies in the GSMNP.

    1. That’s exactly right. I’ve caught many redeyes in NC, that’s why I answered accordingly. That question could apparently have more than one correct answer

  2. 70% this week was a much better score than the 30% from a few weeks ago, although the Fryingpan river was a guess but I heard it on the podcast, so why not go with that!
