Take an All-New Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 05.01.14

Welcome to another edition of our fly-fishing trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love.

This week, as promised, we’ve got ten brand new questions on a variety of subjects—from famous deer-hair-frog patterns to English chalkstreams to the fishing habits of Jesus’ Disciples. This one is definitely for the generalists in the audience, as you’ll need to know a little bit about a lot of subjects to do well here.

The scores on the last week’s Classic Trivia Challenge were fairly weak, with no perfect scores. Congratulations to Ian Holland and Brayden, who were our only two 90-percenters.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a copy of Great Fishing Lodges of North America by Paul Fersen, a gorgeous coffee-table book. The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org) was Courtney Morris, who, like me, enjoys saying “Detlef Schrempf.”

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win a cool book.

Good luck!

  1. 60 percent, but Phil helped with the vomerine teeth question (no idea if I spelled that correctly) and my FFF dues letter came today. So–40 percent really, and I get to keep my guesses.

  2. Well back down to low levels. My tenure as an A student was as short-lived as it was in high school.
    40% = FAIL

  3. 80% – Apostle Peter caught a fish with a coin in its mouth, so perhaps he was using brass beadhead or copper john nymphs? Matthew 17:24-7
