Take an All New Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 10.31.13

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This one’s got 10 new questions, dealing with everything from fly-reel terminology to geography to and types of caddisfly larvae.

The last quiz was another toughie, with just four readers scoring a perfect 100% . Congrats to Rob Kirsch, Bendigo & District Fly Fishers (?), Ted Rosencrantz, and Sharp Hook. Three other people missed a single question, and most folks were in the solid C range.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a signed copy of Tom’s book The Orvis Guide to Small Stream Fly Fishing. This is the book you need for those times when there is no specific hatch on. Last week’s book winner (as determined by random.org) was Tom, whose score was below passing but who gets the prize nonetheless.

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his inspirational words on the title page.

Good luck!

  1. Solid 40% this week. After last week’s 90%, I’ve been taught the lesson of humility that the Brule River often teaches me again and again in Wisconsin during steelhead season.

  2. 70%. I think my brain is starting to go bad. But I will quibble with you about the trailing loop…that’s caused by wind! Or sunspots, one or something.
