Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 05.31.18

Welcome to another edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got a classic set of 10 questions about fly designers, fish species, and fly-fishing history. I expect big things from you all.

The last quiz was always gonna be a toughie, requiring vast geographical knowledge. As expected, there were no perfect scores. In fact, the highest score was 85%, achieved by Dave Ballman and  Bradw. The most common score dropped a bit to 50%.

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive a free digital copy of “Modern Nymphing Elevated,” in which anglers Devin Olsen and Lance Egan offer thorough instruction and theory to advance your understanding and effectiveness on the water. Casting, common drift mistakes, arm & rod positioning, managing line & leader, sighter angles, strike detection, drift principles, stream positioning, approach, and many other elements are meticulously covered to provide an in-depth nymphing masterclass.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org), and recipient of the video above,  was Mike, whose score was very popular, if you know what I mean.

So post your score below (or below the post on our Facebook page!) for a chance to win a great book.

Good luck!

    1. In most places, yes. But the species is native in the very far-northwestern corner of the state. From fieldguide.mt.gov: “Scientists believe that only the rainbow trout of the upper Kootenai River drainage are native to this state. This small group of natives are a Fish of Special Concern.”
