Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 07.14.16

Welcome to another edition of our not-quite-weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, it’s a classic quiz that features questions about geology, tying materials, and caring for your gear.

On the last quiz, there were zero perfect scores, for the second week in a row, and just two people scored 90%: Matthew M and Nick H. However, the most common score jumped up to 60%. The question that beguiled most quiz-takers was about where rainbow trout are native. Only 8% of you knew that rainbows are native to the upper Kootenai River drainage, in the northwestern corner of Montana.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive his or her choice of an Orvis Fly Selection, featuring patterns chosen by Orvis-endorsed professional guides.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org) was Aaron, who pitched one right down the middle.

So post your score below for a chance at this awesome prize.

Good luck!

  1. 90%. Personal best. I may not be part of the 1% but at least I am part of the 8%! Columbia Redband Trout.

  2. A surprising 80% for me. I’ve got to admit, I’m getting better, getting better all the time.

  3. After doing these almost every week for well over a year, maybe more than two years, I FINALLY scored 100%!!!!

  4. 40%–clearly I need a new Phil Monahan Fly Fishing Trivia Challenge Prep Course. My Betamax just died so I can’t watch the old tapes.

  5. gave it 5 minutes and it wouldn’t load

    are you using Java, perchance?

  6. 90% – I was feeling giddy, until I saw everyone else’s scores, now I feel like I just lost that big brown at the net.
