Take a Classic Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 10.27.16

Welcome to another edition of our mostly weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got a classic quiz featuring twenty (20!) about game-fish species names. How’s your Latin?

I thought that the last quiz had a couple of tricky questions, but there were an impressive nine perfect scores. Let’s have a golf clap for Rick A, Erik, Peter D, Ryan, Bigsteelie, Kingfisher/Eric English, brian, AJ, and the seemingly ever-present Stephen Fitch (two out of the last three!). Four people missed just a single question, and the most common score was 50% (but the 50%-70% was where 1/3 of respondents fell).

We have a very special prize this week: To celebrate the launch of the new collaboration between Tacky and Orvis, we are giving away a Tacky Collab Dropper Box. This is the perfect box to organize flies for dropper fishing. One side has the Original Tacky Mat for small nymphs, and the other side has the Big Bug Tacky Mat for larger patterns such as streamers, hoppers, stimulators, parachutes, and larger nymphs.

The winners of our last quiz (as determined by random.org) were Joseph J and AJ, whose perfect score is matched by a prize.

So post your score below for a chance to win this amazing fly box.

Good luck!

  1. 45%. What is the name of Latin fish quizzes. I hateus Latinus fisherus quizzerus

Posted from the Orvis Fly Fishing App

  2. 100% all that random truck quizing with the Bios and some decent guessing, blue gill was blind folded dart throwing

  3. 40%! I’m proud I knew that much. Was close on a couple of others but switched answers. Always stick with your first choice.

  4. Wow, super hard and made me sad that I don’t have those names on the top of my head. Thanks for the reminder, both of the fish I should know more about and the Latin classes I took in college.

    100%

  5. 80%. Good score, but again, too much time spent on the dorkier aspects of fly fishing. I need to get out and fish more.
