Take an All-New Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 04.20.17

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, our quizmaster has come up with another ten questions to tickle the ol’ gray matter–on subjects such as trout biology, famous rivers, and literature.

On the last quiz there was once again just one perfect score. Take a bow AlanS! However, there were an impressive nine almost-perfect 90% scores. The most common score was up a bit to 60%, and the most missed question showed that just 24% of you knew that a trout has 8 fins (2 pectoral + 2 pelvic + dorsal + adipose + anal + caudal).

The winner of this week’s random drawing will receive an a copy of Tom Rosenbauer’s brand new, completely revised Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide. Trust me: this book is awesome.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org), and recipient of Tom’s also-new Fly Fishing for Trout: The Next Level, was Mark T, one of our ninety-percenters.

So post your score below for a chance to win a video that will help you become a better nymph fisherman.

Good luck!

  1. Sweet Jesus, my very first ever 100%! I feel like I just caught my first trout on a fly I tied myself.

  2. 80%. But looking at the other answers, this was obviously an easier “challenge.” Kind of like fishing the day after all the pellet heads are delivered to the river. Fun, but not necessarily satisfying.

  3. 100%!
I have taken dozens of these quizzes and never scored above 70. I am as proud of this accomplishment as I am of my degree from Arizona State University!

  4. 70% – I think Twain said, “there’s nothing wrong with being average just as long as you’re not common.”
