Take an All-New Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 08.25.16

Welcome to another edition of our weekly(ish) trivia challenge, in which we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, it’s another new quiz that features ten questions about flies and the species they’re used for. Of course any fly can be used to catch any fish, but we are looking for best answers here.

On the last quiz, there were eleven perfect scores, a huge improvement over the week before: Give it up for Stan Orlowski, Bradw, Rory, Charlie, Dee, Dan T, Doug, DylanW, Roger Bird, Jake Oe, and Thad Ritch. Two people, Mike and George, admitted that their perfect scores involved some help. There were a cool dozen 90% scores, four more than last week, and the most common score plummeted to 40%!

Post your score and you could win a cool fly selection.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive his or her choice of an Orvis Fly Selection, featuring patterns chosen by Orvis-endorsed professional guides.

The winner of our last quiz (as determined by random.org) was Jeff, whose “gentleman’s C” paid off.

So post your score below for a chance at this awesome prize.

Good luck!

  1. Woo! Who! 90%. I missed the Tarpon fly question. But then, I’ve never fished or them, so how would I know?

  2. 90% – ties a PR! (but it’s a 100% if you count “Couser Deep Minnow”, though a spelling mistake doesn’t make stripers take a sparkle minnow)

  3. 30% Worst ever. When you stick to a few tried and true patterns for stream bred trout, you don’t learn a bunch of other patterns.

  4. 70%…. Yikes!

My sweetheart caught a monster cutty in a mountain lake on our new Recon 5 wt over the weekend. Love that rod! Thanks guys and gals!
