Take the Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 05.28.15

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love. This week, we’ve got 10 new questions about tributaries. Each question asks you to identify the water into which a famous fly-fishing river empties.

The performance on the last quiz was down a bit from the week before, with just one perfect score: Steve West, who claimed that his achievement was the result of “Luck- pure and simple.” Only two people scored a 90%, Winston and johnnydajeweler, and the most common score fell to 40%.

For the next few weeks, we will have two (2!) randomly chosen prize winners per week, thanks to Beattie Outdoor Productions. One winner will receive a copy of Fishtails—the latest compilation DVD, containing all of the films from the last 4 years of filming—and the other will get Carpland, a documentary-style adventure film about the history of carp in the United States.

Our last winner (as determined by random.org)—who will receive a copy of Fly-Casting Finesse, by John L. Field—was Cindi, whose score was low enough that she wrote “ouch!” right after it. (Exactly like last week’s winner!)

So post your score below for a chance at winning a great casting book.

Good luck!

  1. Omg 30 % I had to guess at everyone. Good thing I wasn’t lead scout for Lewis and Clark

Posted from the Orvis Fly Fishing App

  2. You scored 50%! I guess I should travel to the Eastern U.S., but the fishing is so good and we have wide open spaces in the West.

  3. 80%…. Not bad considering I’m a yinzer (from Pittsburgh for those of you that don’t know our language)

  4. 30 percent, but I was expecting a big fat zero. First quiz where I didn’t know at least one correct answer!

  5. 30 again…
So frustrating. Luckily my friends and family still think I’m a great fisherman with excellent fishing knowledge. I have them fooled for sure.

    1. Ah, that’s the California Russian River. This’un is in the Last Frontier and is famous for its sockeye-salmon run.

  6. 40%
Without a clue and with no geographic knowledge about US rivers I always took the second answer.
