Take the Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 08.29.13

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love.

The last quiz was an improvement over the previous one, with two perfect scores (congrats Justin and Mark!) and five 90%s.

This week’s quiz features twenty (20!) questions about fish names and nicknames. If you score a 100% on this one, you should be very proud. Some of the nicknames are regional, so don’t feel too bad if you don’t know them.

As usual, the randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a signed copy of Tom’s book The Orvis Guide to Small Stream Fly Fishing. This is a great book for anyone who loves getting off the beaten path and chasing blue lines. It provides all the information for finding and fishing unspoiled gems found everywhere from wilderness areas to suburban backyards. Last week’s book winner (as determined by random.org) was Ken, said that he had no excuse for his score. And now that he’s getting a free, signed book just for commenting, he has even less of one.

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his inspirational words on the title page.

Good luck!

  1. 60%… As an Ohioan, should I be ashamed/surprised that missed the salt water species (minus Tarpon naturally)? Tied my best score on any Phil Challenge! That is sad…..

  2. 25%. Wow. I’m getting worse at these. Talked myself out of a couple of right answers, not that it would have made much difference.
