Take the Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge: 09.26.13

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love.

The last quiz was apparently right in your wheelhouse, as there were a very impressive 16 perfect scores. Congrats to:

Steve Root, Mark Mooney, Josh, Johnnydajeweler, Dustin, Josh H., Mark, Frank Seifert, Tom the Mailman, Brad W., Jed Green, Dennis, Frank, Peter Nilsen, Mark P., and Gary Oxender Jr.

This week’s classic quiz features 10 questions about everything from fly-rod terminology to hybrid-trout identification.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a signed copy of Tom’s book The Orvis Guide to Prospecting for Trout. This is the book you need for those times when there is no specific hatch on. Last week’s book winner (as determined by random.org) was Capkirk, who didn’t score so well but still gets the prize.

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his inspirational words on the title page.

Good luck!

  1. I’m feeling awfully good about my 60% this week. My score could easily have been half that without some very fortunate guesses.

  2. *0%, but with a small protest. An aerial mend does, indeed, allow the line to be mended before it hits the water- but it’s terrific for presenting a fly behind, say, a boulder. But I’ll take my 80%!

  3. 60%… Every time I get to thinking I know a lot about fly fishing… I come take one of these quizzes and it sets me straight! 🙂
