Take the Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge July 11, 2013

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love.

The last quiz musta been a tough one, as no one achieved a perfect score, although we did have a couple 90s. (Congrats to Rob Kirsch and David Flandro.) Most folks seemed to be in the 40-70 range.

As usual, the randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a signed copy of Tom’s book The Orvis Guide to Small Stream Fly Fishing. This is a great book for anyone who loves getting off the beaten path and chasing blue lines. It provides all the information for finding and fishing unspoiled gems found everywhere from wilderness areas to suburban backyards. Last week’s book winner (as determined by random.org) was Mark Wright, who didn’t ace the quiz, as he said, “Again.”

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his inspirational words on the title page.

Good luck!

    1. Yes, sorry about that. For some reason, the quiz software reverted to last week’s question. You’ll not that the correct question appeared on the answer sheet when you got your score. Weird.

Anyway, I’ve fixed it. Thanks for pointing out the error.

  1. 70%

Question 10 did not have the right answer. John Gierach did write “Even Brook Trout get the Blues”

Q.10 Who wrote “Even Brook Trout Get the Blues”?
    Tom Robbins

    Howell Raines

    Tom McGuane

    Harry Middleton

  2. Actually 80%, since John Gierach indeed is the author of “Even Brook Trout get the Blues”.
It’s ok though, at least as long as I get Tom’s book…

  3. OK only 40% but I have to protest. #10 Who wrote “Even Brook Trout Get the Blues” Does not have the author in the answers. John Gierach wrote it.

  4. 50%. Just fished with Kelly Galloup’s girlfriend. I HAD to put him down.
    I hope they don’t read this blog… 😉

  5. Dang, reading all these comments is kind of making me want to pick up a copy of “Even Brook Trout Get the Blues” !

  6. 100! Having a Biology teacher that was a marine biologist with a penchant for fly-fishing certainly helped though.

  7. I feel good!! 50% I have one of those “Unaccomplished Angeler” stickers on the back of my car. lol I try to live up to it academically!!!

  8. Took the darn test again today after getting 50% yesterday…..got 80%….at 65 my memory isn’t what it used to be.

  9. Having fished on the East Coast for close to 15 years, I have never heard of a renegade, but do use WD40s all the time as BWO imitations. Frankly, in my opinion, that pattern is the more famous.
