Take the Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 05.23.13

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love.

This week, it’s the final installment of our “Name That Fly” series of quizzes: another test of how well you know the names of famous fly patterns for trout, warmwater species, salmon, and saltwater species. I honestly don’t know if this one is harder or easier than last week’s, so we’ll have to let the scores decide.

The scores on last week’s Trivia Challenge were quite a drop off from the all-time high of the previous quiz, but they were still pretty good. In all, there were eight 100%s and quite a few 90%s, as well.

The randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a signed copy of Tom’s book The Orvis Guide to Family Friendly Fly Fishing. This is a great book for anyone who wants to teach their kids (or other people’s kids) or wives how to enjoy our wonderful sport. Last week’s book winner was ewiz, who scored a respectable 80%, which caused him to remark, “not bad. ”

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his inspirational words on the title page.

Good luck!

  1. 90 % again this week. I maintain that Messinger “mouse” has a better ring to it than Messinger Frog

  2. 90% The gummy bugger/minnow got me. I swear there is a gummy bugger fly! Maybe not, has a nice ring to it though.

  3. This one was an easy 90%, I read a lot of tying books and most of these fly names are catchy and memorable.
