Two Great Posts on Joey Maxim on the “Fly Talk” Blog

Podcast listeners will remember 17-year-old Joey Maxim from Tom’s conversation with him this spring. Joey is a young man who discovered fly fishing as he was recovering from a terrible car accident that ended a promising sports career. I had the chance to meet Joey at the Orvis Guide Rendezvous in Missoula in April, where he was somewhat of a hit with everyone there. However, I somehow missed Kirk Deeter’s two stories about Joey on the Field & Stream “Fly Talk” blog.

Deeter, whom many of you might know from his other jobs as editor of Angling Trade and Trout magazines, was clearly struck by Joey. In his first post, “Is Fly Fishing a Sport?“, he describes fishing with Joey and his dad on the Blackfoot River. And in the follow-up, “Do You Have the Chops to Be a Guide? Joey Maxim Does.”, he discusses Joey’s experiences at the Rendezvous and his desire to become a guide.

Click the story titles to read the Kirk Deeter’s posts. They are both great reads.
