Video: Floating the Black Canyon in Salmonfly Season

Here’s a cool video–which is actually a commercial for a raft–about a couple of anglers chasing trout in Colorado’s Black Canyon of the Gunnison during the salmonfly hatch. The raft allows them to get away from other fly fishers and find less-pressured water, and the results are pretty good. I love the shot of a trout jumping on a fly the second it hits the water, and the brownie at the end would make any angler’s trip.

  1. This was actually filmed in rural Kansas in an area that very few fishermen know about, but is home to a world class salmonfly hatch. Besides, packrafting in the Black Canyon is near impossible with all the sharp jagged rocks and the famous “Devil’s Anus” rapid that has sent many an adventurous fisherman to their watery grave.
