Video from Falcon’s Ledge: Utah Trout Tries To Get Away
Our friends at Orvis-Endorsed Fly-Fishing Lodge Falcon’s Ledge sent this video our way. Bryan Eldredge and Spencer Higa spent the day fishing a Utah stream during a stonefly hatch. This particular fish spit the hook, but that didn’t stop Spencer from landing it!
Hi Adam,
Bryan was kind enough to send me over his recipe.
Hook: #4-#6 TMC 200R or Orvis curved nymph hook
Thread: UTC 140 Tan or Yellow
Tail: Deer or Elk hair
Rib: Ex-small or small gold wire
Abdominal Hackle: Brown rooster (barbs slightly longer than hook gap)
Body: Antron in yellow, black, tan, orange or lime green
Underwing: Pearl and Root beer krystal flash
Wing: Deer or Elk hair to match the tail
Legs: Medium barred yellow and black barred rubber legs
Thorax: Superfine dubbing in yellow, orange, lime green, or tan
Thorax Hackle: Grizzly rooster (barbs slightly longer than hook.)
What should be obvious to everyone watching this video is that Spencer is a second-level black belt. The fish never had a chance.
Makes one appreciate nets a little more! How about a recipe for the stimi chew toy?
