Video: Fun with Craft Foam, Part 2

Welcome to the latest installment of our series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video will teach a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

Back in March, Tim explained the basics of tying with craft foam, and here he gets into some of the tools that will help you get the most out of each sheet of foam. He loves cutting tools from River Road Creations, which are easy to use and create perfect bodies every time. Whether you’re creating hopper patterns or Crease Flies for stripers, there’s a tool to fit your needs.

  1. The cutters and cutter press may be very useful tools, but it would help if the article also mentioned the high costs of those tools, costs that keep many fly tiers using scissors and/or razor blades.
