Video: How to Bond Layers of Craft Foam

Here’s the latest installment in an ongoing series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video teaches a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

Many dry-fly imitations of terrestrials and stoneflies feature foam bodies created by stacking different color foam. Here. Tim demonstrates his method for creating these multi-layer bodies. All you need are some foam sheets, some spray adhesive, a little masking tape, and a shallow cardboard box. The results speak for themselves.

Bonding the foam in whole sheets is easier than doing it one fly body at a time.
