Soft Hackles are great imitations of emerging mayflies, and they sometimes produce when trout won’t touch a dun pattern. In this great video from Tightline Productions, Matt Grobert, an author and blogger, shows how to tie a relatively simple, yet super-buggy Soft Hackle Mayfly Emerger that you can create to mimic any of the bugs that hatch where you fish.
Soft Hackle Mayfly Emerger
Hook: Standard dry-fly hook, size 10-18.
Thread: Olive, 6/0.
Rib: Copper-colored UTC Ultra Wire, small.
Tails/body: Pheasant-tail fibers, dyed brown.
Thorax: Rabbit-hair or Australian-possum blend.
Wing: Speckled hen back, dyed golden olive.
Tools: Dubbing wax.
Sweet looking pattern, thanks for sharing!
