Soft Hackles are great imitations of emerging mayflies, and they sometimes produce when trout won’t touch a dun pattern. In this great video from Tightline Productions, Matt Grobert, an author and blogger, shows how to tie a relatively simple, yet super-buggy Soft Hackle Mayfly Emerger that you can create to mimic any of the bugs that hatch where you fish.


          Soft Hackle Mayfly Emerger
          Hook: Standard dry-fly hook, size 10-18.
          Thread: Olive, 6/0.
          Rib: Copper-colored UTC Ultra Wire, small.
          Tails/body: Pheasant-tail fibers, dyed brown.
          Thorax: Rabbit-hair or Australian-possum blend.
          Wing: Speckled hen back, dyed golden olive.
          Tools: Dubbing wax.
