Here’s the latest installment in our series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video will teach a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.
Head cement can be hard to control if you’re just applying it with the tip of your bodkin or something similar. Plus, the cement itself can thicken and become discolored if you leave the lid off the jar. Tim uses a specialized head-cement applicator, which both seals the cement and makes it super-easy to apply. Tim also offers an excellent tip for restoring your head cement if it starts to thicken.
