As far as production values go, this is not a high-end fly-fishing video, but it offers a first-hand glimpse into what it’s like to fish in the beech forests of New Zealand during a “mouse year,” when rodent populations are at the peak of their cycle. The trout often swing and miss, as you’ll see here, but sometimes the beast connects. Of course, the best depiction of this wonderful angling event is Once in a Blue Moon by Carl and Jeannie McNeil.
