Vote for the Winners in Our 2021 “20 Days in September” Contest—and Maybe Win Something for Yourself!

This year’s finalists will be tough to rank. Choose only 3!

Starting on September 1, many of you committed to trying to get on the water at least 20 times during the 30 days of the month. As an added incentive–although you probably didn’t need one–we launched our seventh annual “20 Days in September” Photo Contest, which required entrants to post photos to the Orvis Fly Fishing Facebook or Instagram page, along with the hashtags #20sepdays and #orvisflyfishing. After poring over thousands of entries, our crack team of in-house judges have come up with 10 finalists–which was no small task.

Take a close look at the 10 photos in the widget below (you can see larger versions at the bottom of this page), and  then choose your three favorites. The photographers are competing for some great prizes, including a Helios 3 Fly Rod, a pair of Orvis Pro Waders, and a Mirage LT Fly Reel.

We’ll also give a pair of made-in-the-USA Orvis Nippers to one randomly selected voter at the end of the contest.

Important Note: To be eligible to win the nippers, you MUST leave a comment about the photos in the comments section below. (That’s the only way we’ll know who you are, since the poll widget doesn’t collect data on voters.)

Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. on FRIDAY, October 8th, and we will announce the winners on Monday, October 11th.

So choose our three winners, hit the “vote” button, and then leave a comment below!

  1. These are all good! Can’t imagine how hard it was to sift through many others to get such a nice set of finalists! Thank you!

  2. Great shots Y’all !!! D wants to know if anyone who entered was able to get any trash picked up. Would love to hear about it and publicly thank you for helping clean up our waters It is so encouraging to her to hear that she is teaching people

  3. Wow, John Fallon with the two best photos. All of them are really good but the perspective in his photographs are stunning.

  4. There’s just something about that Chris Williams black & white photo that catches the eye…great background, catching the fisherman’s line just at the right moment, and with the B&W has that timeless feel to it. As a professional photographer myself, I liked many of these pics but Chris really nailed it with style, composition, and that great feel you get from the old days of black and white.

  5. Wow, some great entries! Difficult to choose just three as others have said.

In any event, that musky was quite a catch.

  6. Great contest. Enjoyed participating myself, and looking at many of the entries on Instagram. Liked all of the finalists you chose. Thanks Orvis.

  7. Always good to see the next generation pick up the sport, they are the future!
Great for the mom to take the kids fishing even with little one on her back…

  8. I thought all the photographs were wonderful. They really provide a feel for the magic of fly fishing: family, solitude, nature. They all make you feel good about fishing and provide the urge to get out on the water and get after it.

  9. Oops…I thought choose 3 favs meant successive individual votes, so I guess I only choose 1. Can’t vote anymore.

No matter, they’re all sweet ffing pics and will do any project justice.

  10. Love the one with the waterfall and the fly fisherman. Makes you want to be right there!!
    So many great images!

  11. I love Britt’s picture that includes the waterfall. That image perfectly captures the image of a fisherman against the power of nature.

  12. They are all great photos. My favorite is the waterfall picture with the fly fisherman in the foreground. Fabulous composition! Joe Buchanan

  13. all are wonderful, the young lady fishing with her childern hits a warm spot in my heart as i grew up in the driftless area and would take our 3 young boys trout fishing on these streams . that’s how they learn to fish forever. JRH

  14. This is the second time I’ve been able to participate and it’s been so much fun, looking forward to next September!

  15. All beautiful photos. Lately I’m partial to the fish themselves but the landscapes are pretty amazing. We’ll done.

  16. Some great photos , only wish I knew about the contest , I live in the trout stream on a good day . I love the waterfall photo and two others. I’m looking at composition etc , and the main subject pops against the background. Let me know next time there’s a contest , I’d love to enter . Best of luck to all the entrants !
