Vote for the Winners in Our 2022 “20 Days in September” Contest—and Maybe Win Something for Yourself!

Choose only 3 of these photos–easier said than done!

Starting on September 1, many of you committed to trying to get on the water at least 20 times during the 30 days of the month. (I managed a respectable 25 days this year, while my friend Drew Price fished all 30!) As an added incentive–although you probably didn’t need one–we launched our ninth annual “20 Days in September” Photo Contest, which required entrants to post photos to the Orvis Fly Fishing Facebook or Instagram page, along with the hashtags #20sepdays and #orvisflyfishing. After poring over thousands of entries, our crack team of in-house judges has come up with 10 finalists–which was no small task.

Take a close look at the 10 photos in the widget below (you can see larger versions at the bottom of this page), and  then choose your three favorites. The photographers are competing for some great prizes, including a Helios 3 Fly Rod, a Mirage LT Fly Reel, and a PRO Insulated Hoodie.

We’ll also give a pair of made-in-the-USA Orvis Nippers to one randomly selected voter at the end of the contest, as well as a randomly selected person who posted a photo of them picking up trash while fishing.

Important Note: To be eligible to win the nippers, you MUST leave a comment about the photos in the comments section below. (That’s the only way we’ll know who you are, since the poll widget doesn’t collect data on voters.)

Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. on SUNDAY, October 9th, and we will announce the winners on Monday, October 10th.

So choose your three winners, hit the “vote” button, and then leave a comment below!

Here are the finalists, in alphabetical order:

  1. Tied for me between John Fallon’s photo and Connor Merritt’s. Both places they were taken are special to me and capture what it’s like to fish in those areas!

  2. Beautiful photos, hard to select the best as they are all terrific. Sends those juices flowing…lets go fishing. Memories, lots of beautiful memories.

  3. Great photos as always. When I saw John Fallons photo earlier this month I thought: there’s the winner! That’s a split second shot. Under tough conditions. That’s what makes it special to me.

  4. Beautiful selection this year. Love Alan’s close-ups, John’s action shot and all the fly fishing landscapes!!

    Great work by all!

  5. My buddy John Fallon is a top notch photographer and an ever better guy. He goes the extra mile to get the amazing photos he captures.

  6. Definitely hard to just choose three. Win or not, every photographer should be proud of what they submitted. Amazing skills.

  7. A very good representation of some fine fishing photos. Hard to choose just three. Congratulations to all the photographers!

  8. Orvis, thanks for keeping the excitement going. September is such a nice month to be on the water with a fly rod in one hand and a camera in the other hand.

  9. Absolutely love the photo’s. June was the month I made it out the most, would love to spend more time on the water this fall. The colors are beautiful as represented in these pictures.

  10. Love the bluebell. They tough little fish deserve more attention. Connor Merrits photo really shows the special places flyfishing can take you and the close up of the stone Fly is fantastic.

  11. Wow! How can you pick just three? A wonderful selection of photos!

I love photography, fly fishing, and fish. I wish I could remember to stop thinking about fishing and think about taking a good photo or two while fishing…

  12. They are all great photos and it was hard to pick just 3. I did the 20 days but man my cell phone photos weren’t cutting it I needed my wife to follow me around with my Sony camera every night lol maybe next year.

    1. You really should. My wife and I have made some great memories doing just that over the last few years, and captured some great images along the way. I think you’ll find you both really enjoy the experience.

  13. All of these are absolutely amazing pictures. Connor, John, and Chris have really captured (in my opinion) the feelings and sense of wonder we all search for in our outdoor adventures. Thank you to all the anglers who shared their beautiful experiences with the world.

  14. Love seeing Lucas Miller represent the collegiate level of fly fishing and getting new people involved with the sport we love! Good luck to him as well as all the contestants

  15. Wow. Nice pics, but the shot by Chris Williams makes me want to go fly fishing wherever that beautiful picture was taken. Well Done!
