Vote In Our 2019 “Dad Outdoors” Photo Contest—and You Could Win, Too!

A couple weeks ago, we asked you to post your best photos of dads outdoors on Facebook and Instagram for a chance to win one of three great fly rods: a Helios 3, a Recon, or a Clearwater model. We received hundreds of great images, and from those we’ve chosen our ten finalists. This was tougher than it sounds. After our initial survey of entries, we had 48 wonderful photos that we then had to whittle down to ten. Let’s just say that there were fights . . . .

Now you get to help pick the winner.

Take a gander at the top 10 photos in the widget below (click on each image for a larger version), and then choose your three favorites. The photographer whose image receives the most total votes will win the Helios 3, while second place gets a Recon, and third place a Clearwater.

We’ll also give a pair of Orvis Nippers to one randomly selected voter at the end of the voting. To be eligible to win the nippers, you MUST leave a comment about the photos in the comments section below. (That’s the only way we’ll know who you are, since the poll widget doesn’t collect data on voters.)

Voting is open until NOON (12:00 p.m. EDT) on Friday, June 14. We will announce the winners on Father’s Day, June 16. So choose your three favorites, and then leave a comment!

Don’t forget to leave your comment!

The sweepstakes is open only to legal residents of the USA who are 18 or older. (We apologize to our readers in Canada and overseas; Click here for an explanation of why we have to do this.)

    1. Have one memory of fishing with my dad, in a small row boat on a lake in up state NY, such a fun vivid memory. wish we had done it more often after seeing these photos. Thank you.

  1. So sweet to see men connecting with their daughters and sons outdoors! My adventures with my father and sisters laid the foundation for my love of fly fishing, hiking, and seeking both solitude and comraderie in wild places… I’m so grateful for those early experiences!

  2. I’m a newbie to fly fishing and finding myself in groups of men mostly. I love seeing Dads with their daughters building memories and introducing them young to the sport. The picture with the baby in a fish outfit was just too precious!

  3. Great photos. But my favorite is always seeing dads with there young children. Taking them fishing is precious times together.

    1. Love all of them and especially the ones where dad’s are getting their daughters involved with fishing!

  5. Always love spending time with my son on the water. Building memories that we will have forever.I think it’s great that dad’s are spending time with their children. Building a bond, and showing how to enjoy and respect the outdoors.

  6. It’s great to see the dads with the older kids…maybe it means they were able to instill the fishing passion in them. All great photos!

  7. Recording precious moments through photographs are not always thought of in the simple, candid moments, but they end up capturing a memory that will last forever.

  8. Love the pictures! This Fathers Day weekend we will be making our own memories! We are taking our 8 grandkids fly fishing/fishing during our annual “family camp”!! Thanks Orvis

  9. Wow. So many wonderful images of dads and their kids!
Getting our sons and daughters out on the water (or simply out in nature in general) is so vitally important!
Best of luck to these finalists.

    1. What you teach your sons or daughters goes beyond just your kid(s) it permeates throughout their lives, their friends, etc. Because Anders is a friend of my son, my son and I are having a blast fly fishing in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons this week!

      1. Brian,
It was so neat to have Mason join Anders and me the day we fished for brookies on the Stewart River. And to know that you two are now fly fishing out west is incredibly cool!
Seeing this sport grow and provide memorable experiences to so many is deeply rewarding.
Happy you and Mason are getting out on the water together!

  10. Family is the foundation for a wonderful life. These are wonderful gifts of how We remain blessed. Thank you to all the Dads who take time to teach their children and share values that get passed on generation to generation ♡

  11. Love the Dad – Daughter pics because they bring back such great memories of when my daughter was my ‘little princess.’

  12. These pictures are a small representation of the quality time and dedication it takes to be an awesome dad!

  13. I wish I would’ve known about the photo contest so I could’ve entered. My favorite was the guy holding his child, in the fish costume, like she was a trophy fish! That’s definitely the perfect photo if you’re a fly fisherman.

  14. I loved all the photos, but especially those with young children. The future of our sport is the crop of young, new anglers.

  15. Having been a fly fishing son and grandson and now a fly fishing dad, these made me tear up a little bit. Happy Father’s Day everyone.

  16. Most of my best memories of hunting & fishing were with my dad in the rivers, lakes & woods.
    Happy Fathers’ Day everyone!

  17. Corey caught keeper!
    Kingpin kiss, feel the love.
Michael, daughter and fish all with their mouths open, too funny

  18. Some of my fondest memories are when I took my three now adult children fly fishing when they were young. Happy Father’s Day.

  19. There’s nothing sweeter than a dad spending time with their children. We didn’t get to go fishing with dad….he was always out on field maneuvers or at the motor pool. I loved spending time with dad at the motor pool on weekends. Climbing on tanks, trucks and jeeps is so much fun.
Wishing all a happy father’s day and great fishing!

  20. Love all the photos! Favorite is “Boys in the Snow”. They are my boys and hubby who took off Thanksgiving morning to get in some quality time together before the big feast. So happy they captured the moment with a photo. Thanks for acknowledging this special time of them together ❤️
