Film Festival2

Welcome to another edition of the OrvisNews.com Friday Film Festival, in which we scour the Internets for the best fly-fishing footage available. This week, we start off with a wonderful father-daughter experience during Utah’s green-drake hatch and end with another uplifting story, about the rise of California Trout as an important conservation force protecting trout and salmon. In between, we’ve got a nice mix of freshwater, saltwater, and warmwater. And, as usual, there are more hijinx from our Scandinavian pals, who will make you think of Whitney Houston in a completely different way. Enjoy!

Trout Bum of the Week VI: Taylor Edrington

Capt. Taylor  Edrington has a pretty enviable resume, which just screams “Trout Bum.” He has lived on the Arkansas River in Canon City, Colorado pretty much his whole life, and has fished and guided all over the Rocky Mountain region, as well as in Alaska. Taylor spent eight seasons as a full-time guide, and three years as a lodge manager in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska. He is now co-owner of Royal Gorge Anglers fly shop and SoCo Anglers outfitters in Cañon City, Colorado. Check out his video (above) about a day on the “Dream Stream” section of the South Platte.

The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide Podcast Interviews Lori-Ann Murphy and April Vokey in Belize

This week we’re bringing you a special video podcast from Belize, where I spent some time chatting with two of the most dynamic women in fly fishing, Lori-Ann Murphy, fishing manager of El Pescador Lodge and founder of Reel Women Fly Fishing (and co-star of this year’s “Pirates of the Flats” TV show), and April Vokey, noted steelhead guide, teacher, and TV personality. We get sidetracked and the discussion goes from permit to steelhead. This is the first of a series of podcasts with noted female anglers in celebration of the American Museum of Fly Fishing’s new exhibition “A Graceful Rise, Women in Fly Fishing–Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”, which opens on June 11 and 12 (www.amff.com)

A Hatch that Doesn’t Match

Like most places in the Rockies, Utah has more water than we know what to do with right now. If it gets warm fast, the largest urban areas in the state will face mudslides and serious flooding. As a result, water managers are dumping as much water as they can from all of the reservoirs, . . .
