Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions first taught us to tie a Pine Squirrel Streamer almost a dozen years ago, and since then, he’s demonstrated two more complicated versions: the Pine Squirrel Trout Spey Streamer and the Balanced Pine Squirrel Streamer. Lately, he’s been focusing on “Guide-Style Flies,” patterns that are quick and easy to tie but will still catch plenty of trout. So this week’s video shows you how to create a killer streamer from a single zonker strip and a little weighting wire (which is optional).
Pine Squirrel Streamer
Hook: 3X-long streamer hook (here a Lightning Strike SN3), sizes 8-10.
Thread: Dark brown, 6/0 or 140-denier.
Weight: Lead-free round wire, .020.
Tail and body: Sculpin Olive pine-squirrel zonker strip.
Head: Tying thread.
Adhesive: Head cement.
